Tyler McGill wins Men’s 100m butterfly preliminary meet: Day six – 2011 FINA World Championships
United States’ Tyler McGill produced a wonderful splash to win the Men’s 100m butterfly preliminary meet on day six of the 2011 FINA World Championships in Shanghai, China, on Friday, July 29.
In the corresponding swim, McGill notched the race with an impressive time of 51.76 seconds. Takuro Fujii of Japan wound up second on the podium with a time of 51.82 seconds, while Geoff Huegill of Australia was placed third in 51.83 seconds. Jason Dunford
of Kenya rounded out the top four in 51.87 seconds.
Michael Phelps of United States placed fifth in a time of 51.95 seconds. While commenting on his individual performance in the prelims, Phelps stated, “I'm fine with my time today. I'm looking forward to semifinals tonight.” Phelps earlier won the gold medal
in the Men’s 200m butterfly at the current edition of the championships.
Meanwhile, Konrad Czerniak of Poland wound up sixth in a time of 52.10 seconds and Evgeny Korotyshkin of Russia settled seventh after he touched the finishing wall in a time of 52.18 seconds. Benjamin Starke of Germany finished eighth in 52.26 seconds.
Joeri Verlinden of Netherlands and Sam Ashby of Australia snared ninth spot in a time of 52.27 seconds. Laszlo Cseh of Hungary earned eleventh position in 52.40 seconds, while Peter Mankoc finished twelfth after he ended his swim in 52.46 seconds.
Earlier, Cesar Cielo won the Men’s 50m Freestyle prelims with a sterling time of 22.03 seconds. After putting up a stunning show in the race, Cielo said, “The swim wasn't much of a disappointment, and I feel I couldn't have done better. I've done well with
a lot of inspiration and concentration. I'm looking forward to some top speed tonight.”
Therese Alshammar of Sweden grabbed the Women’s 50m Butterfly prelims with an impressive time of 25.68 seconds. Denmark’s Jeanette Ottesen finished second in 25.88 seconds, while United States’ Dana Vollmer rounded out the top three swimmers after she touched
the finishing wall and ended her swim in a time of 25.98 seconds.
