Tyler Pastornicky optioned to Triple-A Gwinnett and Andrelton Simmons joins Atlanta Braves - MLB
Rookie short-stop Tyler Pastornicky makes errors at shortstop. Though the Atlanta Braves held patience and waited for his improved defensive plays but as it was not forthcoming, finally he has been sent to Triple-A Gwinnett and Andrelton Simmons will do
the job now.
Braves’ General Manager Frank Wren envisages a special talent in Simmons and believes that he is going to reduce frequency of errors drastically. He talked of the success Simmons enjoyed in Double-A and how he can replicate that in the season and help the
Braves.
“He has special talents [at shortstop],” Wren said. “Once the reports started coming in so glowingly that he was handling that [Double-A] level so well, we started at least giving it some thought as to when would be the right time, and we continued to call
this week and everyone in player development that [assistant GM] Bruce [Manno] talked to said he’s ready.”
Andrelton Simmons plays in Double-A Mississippi. His call has come as a pleasant surprise for him. He will be having his Major League debut on Friday.
Atlanta Braves’ performance has already declined and making compromises in any area cannot be afforded. Despite the fact Pastornicky showed credentials for becoming a great hitter, errors he committed at short-stop were too many that the Braves had to put
aside all the positives he can bring to the side.
Pastornicky confesses his poor run of form and seconds the decision the management made on him. Struggle had started from Spring Training and eventually reflected on his performance in the season, he explained.
“I think it’s probably more defensively than it is anything else. I haven’t played my best defensively. It’s been kind of a grind, even with spring training,” Pastornicky said.
Pastornicky will go down in Triple-A Gwinnett and work-out the loopholes in his throws and make sure he brings a change in approach at short-stop position. The fact he has been hitting well in the season, only if he can rectify himself defensively, he can
make his way back to the season.
Meanwhile, the Braves will hope Simmons turns out to be a valuable fielder at short-stop and minimises their errors in the field.
