Tyler Wright and Coco Ho advance to Round 3 of Roxy Pro France 2011
The first and second heat of Roxy Pro’s Round 2 went down at the La Grande Plage in Biarritz, South Africa, on Thursday, July 14th.
Australia’s Tyler Wright defeated her compatriot Rebecca Woods in the first heat to advance to the third round, while eliminating her rival from the competition.
The second heat saw Hawaii’s Coco Ho emerge triumphant from her battle against Australia’s Jessi Miley-Dyer to make it through to the third round, bringing her rival’s Roxy Pro campaign to a premature end.
The second round kicked off in low tides with three-to-four foot waves on offer. The conditions were pretty decent as compared to the previous three days, so there was not much for the surfers to complain about. Mother nature seemed to be in a much better
mood on Thursday and a change of location had seemed to work out well for the event.
As the first heat kicked off, Woods locked a wave to earn 4.50 points off it and take the lead. The Association of Surfing Professionals (ASP) Women’s World Tour rookie and current ASP No.3, Tyler responded nicely with a 6.67-point wave to move ahead of
her compatriot. She soon added another 5.07 points to her account to move to a heat-total of 11.74 points
Woods had a good opportunity on her hands to stay alive in the event, but she blew it by only managing to earn 6.33 points off her second wave and finishing 0.91 points short of her rival’s heat-total. Consequently, she was forced to surrender the win to
her rival and get eliminated from the competition.
Hawaii’s Ho remained the highlight of the second heat, stealing the spotlight with her impressive performance. While Australia’s Dyer drew first blood by riding a wave for 4.00 points and immediately added another 3.80 points to her account to move to a
tw0-wave total of 7.80 points, her Hawaiian rival responded with a 5.83-point wave to ease off some pressure.
After a few minutes, Ho caught another wave to thrown down a combination of amazing manoeuvres and earned 7.17 points for the effort, moving to a heat-total of 13.00 points. The score placed her 5.20 points ahead of her Australian rival and consequently
carried her off to the third round.
Dyer, who is currently ASP World Number 14, would definitely be disappointed by her performance and getting ousted from the current ASP Women’s World Tour event so early.
