Tyler Wright makes a stunning performance in heat one - Billabong Rio Pro Women’s Championships
Day one of the Billabong Rio Pro Women’s Championships got off to a flying start with the most stunning and competitive performance of Tyler Wright at the Barra Da Tijuca, Rio De Janeiro in Brazil on Wednesday, May 11.
In the heat 1, Wright picked up the top seed with a stunning score of 14.27 out of 20.
“When they came through there were some fun ones out there but it’s pretty inconsistent. The main thing for me was to get started quick and get the ball rolling and I’m glad I did because nothing came in for the last 12 minutes,” said Wright.
Meanwhile, Courtney Conlogue of the USA took the second place with a total score of 10.17 and Claire Bevilacqua of Australia wound up third with 4.70 points at the end of the first heat.
Silvana Lima of Brazil won heat 2 with a captivating score of 12.50, while Paige Hareb of New Zealand grabbed 11.50 points and Felicity Palmateer of Australia finished third with a 9.47 in the corresponding meet.
In heat 3, Carissa Moore rounded out the top in 8.30 out of 10, while Jessi Miley-Dyer of Australian placed second with a total score of 5.00 and Maya Gabriera of Brazil wound up third with 3.56 points.
Heat 4 was taken over by Sally Fitzgibbons of Australia with a total score of 13.84 out of 20. Meanwhile, Laura Enever of Australia grabbed second place with a score of 11.07 and Andrea Lopez of Brazil finished third with a score of 9.23 in the respective
heat.
“The conditions have improved since this morning, it’s just a matter of when they come through because there are massive lulls. It was good to get one straight off and then there was a lot of hassling, so hopefully we have more waves for the next round,”
said Fitzgibbons.
She further added that it was a pivotal heat for her. She is enjoying these tough and challenging heats at Barra Da Tijuca and she wants to keep her performance in a steadfast manner.
Stephanie Gilmore of Australia grabbed the first place in the fifth heat with a sterling score of 12.16 out of 20, while Pauline Ado of France earned second in 8.43 and Suelen Naraisa of Brazil settled third in 7.17.
Gilmore commented on the most challenging and intriguing heat stated that she has not qualified for the final yet and she feels like she is in the stage of learning how to surf the toughest heats in a competitive manner again.
Last, but not the least, Sofia Mulanovich captured the first spot in the sixth heat with a captivating score of 12.83, while Coco Ho earned second in 10.87 and her team-mate Alana Blanchard finished sixth with a total score of 9.30 in the following heat
of surfing at Barra Da Tijuca.
