This should be my last question but, I am thinking of buying the 4 ohm x 4ohm 12 alpine type R sub. I am going to power it by a 600w 2 ohm amp. The type R's specs are 500w RMS 1500w peak. the amp is speced at 600rms 1200 peak. Will this be OK. Like if I adjust the volume of the amp, doesnt that lower the wattage, and will be ok w/ this sub?

  1. ure not really suppeosed to give it more than 550 but that's ok let the person who installs it adjust your gain properly and don't push the subs past their limits

  2. Actually The Amp Isnt 600 Rms Per Sub. Its Only Like That If You Have One Sub. So Since You Have 2 Subs You Divide 600 By 2. So That Means Each Sub Is Getting 300 Rms. You Dont Need To Turn The Amp Down. Your Alpines Are 3000 Peak & 1000 Rms (Together!) Focus On Rms Not Peak. Peak Doesnt Mean ****!

But Heres An Amp That Will Power Both Subs. Its A Hifonics TXi 1008D & Its 1000 Rms @ 1 Ohm!Your Subs Will Be Fully Powered & You Wont Have To Turn Anything Down Unless You Want To.

  3. it does, but it doesn't. funny answer isn't it?

If the wattage parameters are OK, you will be able to use the speaker more than with 500Watt amp, because 500W amplyfier pushing 500Watts of power will not sound good, so you will have to lower the gain or volume. With stronger amp you wont have to do this...

When speaker is not able to handle higher wattage, it is going to make some distortion which you can hear (excursion overload usually in Car audio), but speaker is not gonna die, its constructed to stay alive when this happens. But when the distortion or limitation does the amplyfier, it can kill your speaker easily.

But in fact, 100Watts of power will not give you some extra loudness. Anyway I'd buy it...

  4. The combination should be fine.  It's slightly more then the recommended going 10% over the RMS rating, but not much more.  Type R's can take it...just be sure to set the gain on the amp correctly and you should be allright.
