  1. Why are some people suggesting thoroughbreds? That's so stupid! They take alot of looking after and are one of the worst horses prone to ill-health.

I myself do alot of riding, dressage and jumping. I have a thoroughbredxdraught to add a little bit of thickness. They are alot like thoroughbreds but much easier to handle and a little bit thicker.

    Hope this helps!

  2. I have an appy who is fantastic at jumping! She is just a natural jumper. I also have a thoroughbred cross who is just the best horse I could ever ask for. I think you should get a thoroughbred cross, and I've seen a lot of english horses and jumping horses around my town that are Oldenburgs, or Hanoverians. Warmbloods are good horses too. My friend has a warmblood that jumps like, 4'6". Tall horses are also a plus. Good luck finding the perfect horse!

  3. quarter horses are very elegant for english if well bred and most have good tempers also thouroghbreds are also elegant for english  but can be a lil crazy.i think a morgan would be an exelant choice.

  4. thoroughbreds, warmbloods and paints, i know thoroghbred and he won natials in 3-day. i dont know any warmbloods but there used in english a lot in natiols, i love paints i know some jumpers and dressage paints very good at it.

  5. Any breed can do english.  National show horses(basically half arab and saddlebred) are good english horses.  Arabians are too.  Depends how they move, built.  Not all horses are built and have movement to do english and win, same as dressage and western.  Look at confirmation, how the neck is set on the shoulders for instances.  Higher the neck is set the better for english, but no so good for western.  Watch the horse move before you buy it.  Hard to explain everything on this forum and I hate typing.  Ask somebody to go with you that is experienced enough to pick out a good english horse, breed doesn't really matter as long as it is not gaited.

  6. For a first horse? Definately not a thoroughbred, no offense but they can be a little "hot" and are prone to health issues.

appendix quarter horse would be my first choice

maybe a standardbred, a lot like a thoroughbred but generally less "hot"

  7. appendix, quarter horse, paint,  arabian(depends on temper, because I have seen very high strung arabs, and very laid back ones) maybe a tb but only one that hasn't raced, but not all paints or quarter horses are good for english.....

Personally, I would get an older arabian, but maybe I just really like arabs because I own one... and he is the fastest learner ever, and He is smart, and all arabians are beautiful when they run!!! but look for a calm one with not alot of spook, or try a paint/ arabian because they will be flashy in the show ring!!!

  8. paints and quarter horses are very laid back

  9. The horse breed really has little to do in regards to whether or not the horse will do well for you. Really I would just disregard the breed for now and focus more on finding a horse to fit your needs. As to TBs being bad for beginners the first horse I rode was a TB and she took and still takes excellent care of me.

Your best bet is to ask your trainer or riding instructor to do one of two things: 1. Help look for a horse with you or 2. Recommend somebody who can help. In addition see if your instructor has any horses for sale at her place that she feels would be a nice fit for you.

  10. NO  PHOTO  MAN.

  11. I do believe quarter horses and Thoroughbred's are the best..just from experience. quarter horses are very versatile and there's very little they cant do..and thoroughbreds are very intelligent, despite what some people may say..i own aThoroughbredd, and I wouldn't trade him for any other breed...But if you wanted to try something new, try astandard-bredd..my mother had a very good one, took to english very quickly...
