  1. if you are going to put in insulation put in the roll kind. it will be very easy and less expensive

  2. How much access do you have to the attic, or the space below the roof?  Are you going to be replacing the ceiling of your room and adding insulation from below, or getting into the attic and adding insulation above your room from there?  If there is a large attic space above your room, and not much ventilation, sometimes you can cool the living space by simply installing some ventilation grilles to the roof to vent off hot air from the attic.

  3. If your room is actually in the attic then you may need more ventilation. I would recommend you thoroughly research spray insulation if that's something your thinking about- it is popular and trendy, but the most recent reports are showing that it is the cause of premature shingle failure in virtually every case it is installed. The group that has the most published regarding this area apart from individual shingle manufacturers is ASHRAE http://www.ashrae.org/ what they are finding, along with shingle manufacturers is the spray insulation is not allowing enough air movement in the attic to cool the shingles on the exterior of the house and the shingles are literally baking themselves on the roof!

Now, if your room is not the attic and you are simply looking to add insulation to cut energy costs and change the temperature of the living space of your home- I would definitely go with the batten style (or roll) insulation- its an easy install, inexpensive and works really well.

  4. spray in insulation works better for above ceiling although you can get the rolls just make sure it's a high enough R rating.

  5. Check out the following web page on types of insulation:
