I'm 16 and have never taken a martial art before but I'm really interested in grappling and jujitsu but there aren't any places that teach it anywhere near where I live.

I'm 6'1 160

Any information would be great...

  1. Does your school have a wrestling team?  That's like 3-4 months of intense grappling training for free; you don't get too many deals like that once you're out of school

you can also try a judo school; it's closely related to BJJ, and you could at least learn the basics

nowadays, many martial arts schools have mma/grappling classes too; just make sure they're lead by people who know what they're doing, not just punks trying to profit off the ufc's popularity

  2. your hieght isnt a big factor. if you go to a bjj school they will brain wash you and tell you you cant go anywhere else and cross train. SO i suggest you check out THE BEST mma pioneer ERIL PAULSON. before frank shamrock and before the gracies there was ERIK. He was the First  AMERICAN to win an actual mma  title and he beat the best mma grappler japan had to offer while he was fighting there the ufc was just starting here. He is called the human bible of submissions and what he founded was CSW or submission wrestling that incorporates BJJ but is quick kill and not so drawn out. He trains guys now in the UFC and all over ... look him up and buy a DVD tell him Sandra sent you!

  3. well since ur tall..id say muay thai...mainly cuz ur tall...so in the clinch u could contest the knees pertty good. and it would be kinda hard to move u in the clinch...concidering ur weight,i think it would be hard to move u in the clinch. plus my sparring partner is just about ur weight and height, and hes pertty good in the clinch (but i still own hes *** ;) )....but a little jits seems good for u to...long legs means big hips....so u could use ur hips pretty effectively...try muay thai, jujitsu, and wrestling. good luck bro. and have fun.

  4. FIND somewhere to learn BJJ

    and also muai thai

  5. I was about your hight and weight when I took up American Kenpo Karate in 1990. It's a true blend or hybrid of many fighting styles. It has grappling and strikes and in my opinion is the most complete art out there today.
