Im a 12 year old kid who is 5'5" and 120 lbs. I want a martial arts that takes it very serious and is vigorous. I want to challenge my body. Where is a good place to learn in Arizona? I tried yellow pages but didn't really find anything. I heard muay thai is good? I would prefer something like kickboxing.

  1. I do not agree with the first answer, Muay Thai is a serious blood sport and I have been practising it for 2 years now and that was after training my body significantly and practising other martial arts.

A great place to start would be Ju Jitsu or Coi Kwang do- I do not recommened karate as from my experience it is not very practical and cannot be applied to a real life situation very easily.

I started with Judo however I advise Choi Kwang do for starters, It is very practical from the first lesson I felt I was learning something useful that I could apply and use for self defence. It takes into account your bodies sequential body movements, and allows you to generate more power and speed from your body movements while being quite easy to execute. It also offeres some great workout sessions.

After a couple of years maybe you could take up muay thai, but i advise not starting until you are at least 16 and of stronger build.

  2. How about regular, every day, run of the mill BOXING?

  3. taekwondo is a great calorie burning martial art. i am a 4th degree in taekwondo.

  4. Muay thai is great! But you must not be afraid to get hurt cause trust me...it huuuuurts. I don't class any other kickboxing (other than muay thai of course) a martial art. But that's just me. If you don't want to get hurt try karate or something progressive that doesn't throw you in the deep end straight away and that you learn some techniques first.

    Good luck!!

  5. There are so many places and styles that you can learn. You should have a Dojo near you somewhere. You can also alot from online video lessons. But, in the end, it's all up to you.
