Question:

Type of printer?

I was wondering if any of you buy printers off the shelf at Walmart, or special printers that can handle larger printing loads...I'm asking because the last two printers we've bought didn't last more than a year.

  1. I have used different brands of printers, but the best I have found is made by Hewlett Packard. Everyone i know of that has one agrees..

I have never had any kind of prob with it

  2. Printers are usually dirt cheap and yeah they often don't last long and cost a lot to keep up.

They are mostly plastic, with plastic parts, made in China.

Now if you don't need COLOR see if you can find a working HP II.

That's a first generation laser printer with the Canon print engine that is worth fixing when it breaks.  It's a workhorse and was the mainstay of businesses.

You get about 3,000 pages out of a recycled $25 cartridge or 5,000 pages out of a new HP $60 cartridge.

We're talking about 1 cent per printed page, but it's only black and white, but it will do graphics.

I've seen these at computer stores for $250 (new they were $2,000) at thrift stores and garage sales for $25.

So long as the engine works it's a deal.  And Canon or HP probably still fixes them.

The Engine is made in Japan, mostly metal parts.

Other than that I like my Canon jet printer and it's beena round for 3 years now and I did press and promotion work for artists prting out full color photos, T shirt transfers, I worked on many articles for publiction and now I'm doing a book and it's putting out thousand of pages, but the cartridges cost $8 each recycled or $13 each new and only last about 500 pages.

  3. We've had our HP DeskJet 895Cse for years and years with no troubles.  With HS'ing, I print quite a lot and one black cartridge lasts me 3 months and a color one lasts 6 months.  I print mostly on draft, which saves ink.

The only thing I don't like about this one is how small the paper tray is.  I think they've improved them over the years.  I wish it would hold an entire ream of paper at once - not 50 or so.

  4. I have had no luck with ink-jet printers, personally, and have switched to laser printers.  You can find used laser printers from Craigslist (dot org) or your local newspaper for inexpensive prices if you can't afford a new one, and they will last for a long time.

My first three ink-jet printers didn't last longer than a year.  My laser printers not only last at least 5 years, but they are far cheaper to print with than ink-jets -- a $50 toner cartridge lasts me well over a year.
