Type of rat?

Question

My son just bought a pet rat, and the pet store couldnt tell us what type of rat he is.

Can anyone refer me to a site so I can identify him?

He has long ears, and a long face, grey on his head, and a white body.

He said the rat "chose him" so it isnt an issue, but we are curious.

you should post a pic. just keep in mind there's only one breed of rat and the rest is just varieties and colors. by long ears do you mean big ears? dumbos have larger ears on the side of their head, and standard ear rats have smaller ears on the top part of their head (normal eared rats). color wise it sounds like either a hooded or a bareback =)

He sounds like a hooded fancy rat. All the rats sold in pet stores are called fancy rats to distinguish them from wild rats. Try these sites for more information:
