Hi. (:

Mmk, so have to tie some things in my rat's cage so they stay in place. And she keeps chewing the string apart. Is there a kind she wont chew? I heard about putting cayenne pepper on the string for awhile and she wont bother it' does that work? Is wire ok or will it hurt her teeth?

Thanks for reading. (:

  1. Rats will chew almost anything, wire will hurt them, try getting a small D ring from Home Depot to hold the item in the cage they probably wont attempt to chew that.

Get them some chew blocks or treats and place them in the cage instead of on it as rats are curious and nosey also they love rat wheels

  2. Cayenne pepper might make her sick.

What kinds of things are you trying to keep in place? I usually use zip ties for the wheel/other things, and I usually don't have a problem.  But my guys have a lot of things to chew on.  For hammocks and cubes I usually use metal rings, and they can't chew those.  You could probably use them to keep some things in place, too.

  3. Also along with the d-ring idea try those split rings from keys or the ones that people use for reports. They are in the office supply of any store.

I use the twist ties from bread bags and coated paperclips too in a pinch.

Also from the hardware store try c-clips they look like an oval with a place to open them up in the center.

  4. Haha. They probably chew on everything they can.

But mine is well behaved and doesnt chew on anything but the wood thing i give it. =]
