I'm going to the Netherlands, Belgium, France, England, Wales, and Ireland from July 5th - 24th. Can anyone give me an idea of some ideal clothing to take? You know, jeans, shorts, etc. which is better? T-shirts or long sleeved shirts? Lots of jackets?

  1. it should be fairly warm (I say SHOULD because our weather is always changeable and you never know for sure) - mostly you will need casual summer stuff like jeans, T-shirts, shorts, short sleeved shirts - you will need very comfortable footwear because you will do an awful lot of walking while you're sightseeing, most people wear trainers or sandals - there might be some cooler spells, especially in the evening, so you'll need one warm top, something like a jumper or fleece - you might want one formal jacket, long sleeved shirt and tie, and slacks if you want to go somewhere more formal for dinner - a lightweight waterproof jacket and/or an umbrella is a good idea because there's always the chance of showers - something for your head is also a good idea, a sun hat or something, but preferably something that won't get spoiled crammed into a suitcase

but most of all if you're travelling around so much you need to travel as light as you can - I always pack some detergent so that I can quickly wash things - that way I don't have to pack tons of garments

and of course you want to leave room in your luggage for things you buy (gifts, mementos)

  2. What kind of luggage are you taking?  If you have to carry it all yourself, then I suggest you pack light.  The weather in most of the countries you mention will be relatively warm at this time of the year.  Yes, you will probably have the odd rain, and maybe even a cooler day or two.  However, I would take a couple of shorts and T-shirts and short sleeved shirts, at least one pair of long pants/jeans and a long sleeved shirt.  Good walking shoes, and sandals if you desire.  You might take at least one outfit that is suited to a more formal setting.  Many places have some dinner standards!  Jackets and sweaters, yes.  But you might save some room to purchase a few things along the way.

I was traveling in England, and I had not planned for HOT weather, since I had been told it was always damp and cold.  I did not have the right clothing, I was sweltering, so I had to purchase some new shorts and a shirt and some sandals that soon became my favorite.  I wish I'd bought 5 pair while I was at it.  Anyway, you sould have a good time.  Enjoy yourself.

  3. Use a backpack, take 4 sets of underwear and socks. 4 T shirts and 1 each short and long sleeve nice shirt.

Toilet kit and 6 travel packets of Kleenex for when you cannot find TP. 1 jacket, 2 pair of slacks, wrinkle free with deep front pockets. 1 pair of jeans. 1 pair of shoes and a ball cap.

Wash your socks and underwear by hand each night with shampoo, hang to dry where they will get lots of air.

Keep your passport in a travel pack around your waist inside your pants along with most of your money and spare cards. Keep enough money for 1 day and 1 credit card in a secure front pocket. Do NOT use a f***y pack. Keep a copy of your passport and all credit cards hidden in your pack.

Avoid people with maps and newspapers who want to ask you directions or who approach you with children or other people around, these are favorite tricks of pickpockets. Practice turning on occasion to see who is following you, this will let the thieves know you are watching and they will go elsewhere. Tourists are big targets, specially young ones.

Take a separate travel bag just big enough for your camera and a book. Make sure it has a carry strap long enough to put around your neck.
