Typhoons can up to 512k/h.but can it make a straw to do throw a plam tree?

  1. Mythbusters conducted just such a test. No, it can't. It's not strong enough. They also tested with reed, which got in a respectable 2 inches, but not through the palm tree. Piano wire did the trick - it went straight through the tree and entered about 4 inches into the concrete behind the tree.


  2. I think you mean tornadoes.  And yes they can drive a piece of straw through a tree/phone pole, etc.  There's a very famous image of such a thing but I'm sorry I couldn't find it on google images.  I've seen it before in a civil engineering class I once took.

    The strongest typhoons have winds around 300k/h and I suppose that windspeed may make it possible for a stick or piece of straw to go into a tree.  But the famous thing you are talking about was from a tornado which does in rare instances have winds as strong as 512k/h (300+ mph)

  3. Yes, typhoons can do such things too.  Studies have shown that it's not as impressive as it seems. Pores on trees can open up in the wind, making it easier to fit things in them.
