Typical Barcelona target Chelsea’s 24-year-old Brazilian defender David Luiz
Undoubtedly Chelsea’s best signing in years; former Benfica defender David Luiz has already attracted interest from La Liga giants Barcelona after just half a season at Stamford Bridge.
The Brazilian centre-back transferred to the London club in the January transfer window of last season for a fee of £21.3 million on a long term five year deal.
He arrived at Chelsea at a time when the Blues were going through a bit of a defensive crisis, with the otherwise regular centre-back http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Alex-c4752 sidelined with injury.
Luiz did well to fill in for Alex, surprisingly developing a perfect partnership with http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Defence-c38904.
Luiz, who was signed at the same time as £50 million http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Fernando-Torres-c13707, went on to score more goals than the Spaniard.
While Torres managed just one goal since his arrival at Stamford Bridge, Luiz found the back of the net twice in 12 English Premier League appearances.
The 24-year-old is a fast paced, solid defender, who seems to have a knack for scoring match winning goals for his side.
His first goal came against Manchester United at Stamford Bridge in a much needed 2-1 win over the Red Devils.
He found the back of the net a second time against Manchester City, in a 2-0 win that earned him the Man of the Match award.
It comes as no surprise that Barcelona have now decided they want Luiz, who is proved to be one of the most exciting defenders in the Premier League.
Barcelona have a close to perfect squad already, with an ample supply of players for every position, their success last season just proved they are in no need for reinforcements.
Yet they continue to target key players from other teams, with their latest target being the Brazilian defender.
Luiz is not the only ridiculous target for Barcelona in this summer’s transfer window; the La Liga giants have also had their eyes on http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Alexis-Sánchez-c4979.
The Udinese striker c*m winger is worth an estimated £40 million, with Barcelona reportedly having already come to an agreement with the player.
There had been interest from English Premier League defending champions Manchester United, but they were not willing to pay the astronomical transfer fee.
It makes one wonder where Barcelona are planning to play their possible new signings, since there is no possibility the existing players will be sacrificed for the new arrivals.
Why change a system that already works? Or could it be that Barcelona are building up an expensive bench.
With their recent pattern of targeting unneeded players, Barcelona look to be on their way of becoming the new http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Real-c30728 Madrid.
With too many superstars gathered at one club, there is bound to be dissatisfaction and discontent, which will ultimately affect the team’s performance and results.
Could it be that http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/David-Luiz-c10542 could be the last straw on the camel’s back? Barcelona’s decline will not be swift; they are too great a club for that.
However, slowly but surely, it will come if their pattern of spending and their transfer targets doesn’t change any time soon.
As for Luiz, there is no way Chelsea are going to let one of the best players and future http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Barcelona-c38604 are willing to give.
