I'm gong to start show jumping but I wanted to know the typical minimum amount of pieces of tack I need. Like for instance if I was to get a pad like this... http://www.statelinetack.com/itemdy00.asp?T1=SLT720689%20LG%20JMP . Anything would be useful to say. Thank you.

By the way, I already have the main necessity, a horse....lol

  1. You need the usual saddle, girth, bridal and what ever else you have at home when riding, you should clean your horse, and all of its equipment.  For yourself you need to have your hair up (it can be in braids at some shows) and your jacket with your jodhpurs, as well as boots.  You should make sure that everything you bring is clean it make you look more put together.  Oh your saddle pad should also be square not fitted to the saddle like in hunters.

For the rest of the things you were wondering about.  Unless your horse needs the riser and the cushion to help keep the saddle in the proper place then your really don't kneed all of that other stuff.  I see a lot of people that do jumpers and put a whole bunch of stuff on there horse just to dress it up.  Some things are necessary for different horses.  Some horses need the cushion and the riser under there saddle, but again if you don't kneed it then there is no reason to waste your money you can spend it on going to other shows because of how expensive it is.

  2. well out of those 3, i would get the 1st item (pad) and the last item, which i would put on between the pad and saddle. I always use a pad, Gel-eze pad (between saddle and pad as its a half pad) and the saddle on top. If your saddle slips back then a breastplate may help, and you can get the martingale (standing or running) to go with it. a jumping or GP saddle..... You should wear white/cream jodhs, white shirt, stock or tie and a jacket, hat, gloves and a body protector.

  3. . You need a saddle, girthstrap and stirrups if they do not come with the saddle, numnah   bridle, bit, reins, and a breastplate if the saddle tends to slide past the withers. Then you need to check with your competition as they somtimes wont let you have certain bits etc. also you may need boots if your horses legs catch each other when he is moving , or if he has week tendons .

  4. Saddle - Preferably brown and leather

    Bridle - Color matches saddle

Girth - Just needs to fit

Bit - Make sure it is legal

Pads - the Square Pad and Black half pad thing are good

Saddle Accessories - Leathers and stirrups

Martingale - Running but necessity depends on the horse

Breastplate - Necessity depends on the horse

For show jumping (especially at the lower levels) everything just needs to be clean, workmanlike and fit properly.

  5. You do not really need the cushion pad because you are already getting the foam pad. You need a saddle, pad, girthstrap and stirrups if they do not come with the saddle, bridle, bit, reins, and a breastplate if the saddle tends to slide past the withers. Then you are pretty much set.

  6. Go to doversaddlery.com and scoll down and (left side) click on the live costomer service online, ask her the question and she will show you the tack you need for a pretty good price. Hope this helps!

  7. a normal pad should be fine but for extra comfort or if your horse has a bad back then get the 2nd one also.

    tack -overreach and brushing boots

            - bridle - preferably not with a drop noseband, grackle   instead.

           - do not have a standing martingale, although to be honest they may have outlined that in the show rules.

Check the competition rules because they might not permit certain tack.

  8. i have the chusion pad (#1) and they are awesome. I dont need my lolli pop pad with this because it provides extra lift.

  9. r u doing hunter or jumping? if u r doing hunter then noway u need white half pads in jumping u need a baby pad

  10. WHEN I FIRST STARTED JUMPING I JUST USED MY NORMAL TACK.

BUT A JUMPING SADDLE IS A GOOD INVESTMENT AND A MATCHING BRIDLE TOO!
