Typically how long does it take to learn to play the piano?

I tried to learn piano when i was like 10, but my teacher died..no joke. he died he had a heart attack.. and i have just been playing around and memorizing how to play songs on my piano. But I want to really learn how to play for real.

The problem is I want to learn before the end of the year.

Can i learn by then?
