  1. Diesel gets better gas milage. Thats why its more expensive.

  2. Diesel, usually 25-40% better consumption than gas

  3. Diesel

  4. Diesel engines typically get about 20-30% better mpg than their gasoline counterparts.

To contradict another responder, this is not why diesel is more expensive.  Traditionally, diesel was less expensive than gasoline and only recently has surpassed gasoline in cost.  Does this mean that gasoline got better mileage all those years?  Not at all.  Diesel costs have risen primarily due to recently enacted refining legislation ( Ultra low sulfur) and increased demand for home heating oil, which is diesel fuel (both are known in the industry as #2 oil).  Increased handling in the winter also adds to the cost, as diesel requires an anti-gelling compound to avoid turning into a gloppy, useless mess in your fuel tank.  Some companies use kerosene ( #1 oil), some inject specially formulated compounds.

  5. FEET get better mileage! (I walk everywhere...sorry)
