I am trying to buy a waverunner new or used. If I buy a used one it would be nearly at 50 hours. I want to know typically how long waverunners last before the motor starts wearing out and everything starts falling apart and would require me to buy additional parts to fix.

  1. I have seem some rental places claiming 1000 hours!

A jet ski is like a car that is always going up hill without a transmission. So they are, all of them, made for high performance use. The maintenance and the way you ride it will make a big difference. I had an 1100 Wave Venture that was still running great, after 200 hours without any repair, by the time I sold it.

Generally speaking, about 150 hours is time to start looking at refreshing the top end in a recreational driven personal watercraft.

Extreme racing and modifications can shortens a watercraft's engine life but, they give you the extra speed so they are cool in my book!
