Tyron Woodley: Strikeforce should finalise and announce my title bout with Nate Marquardt - UFC News
Tyron Woodley, one of the best submission specialists in Strikeforce’s welterweight division, recently advised the promotion to finalise the terms and announce his engagement with Nate Marquardt since he has initiated his sparring session and wants to grab
the vacant welterweight title by winning in a different way altogether.
According to the details, Tyron, who is on a continuous win streak, has successfully secured the number one contender seat by his hard work and has nailed almost all the available ace welterweights in the promotion.
Strikeforce’s welterweight title got vacant when Nick Diaz left the promotion and became a part of Ultimate Fighting Championship (UFC). Since then no bout has been held to decide the ownership of the gold but now things are about to change.
Nate Marquardt, the former UFC middleweight brawler has recently signed the contract with Strikeforce and is scheduled to make his debut in a title bout. It is this reason why everyone is expecting the skirmish between Nate and Tyron to take place soon,
most probably, on May 19, 2012.
Tyron recently requested the management to finalise the things since he has already started his training routine and wants to concentrate on his opponent, once the name gets finalised. Woodley commented, “I want them to give me a bout agreement and confirm
that we are going to do this on that day. Because I’ve already started training.”
The 29-year-old American Woodley, also known as ‘T-Wood’, has been in a total 10 bouts and authoritatively won all of them. The young brawler’s most lethal aspect is his submission fight style. Woodley has nailed five of his opponents via submission and
is considered as the master in this painful art of making the opponent submit.
During the short interview, Tyron revealed the competitive advantage he has over Nate and said, “My competitive advantage is I can pull video on [Marquardt]. I can pull tons of fights. I can really just sit there and watch Chael Sonnen beat him up 10 times
over and really break down into frames and plan game plans purely off that fight. The film he has on me, he has in segments. He hasn't seen me put it all together.”
Tyron continued that he does not want to stick the label of being ‘just a submission specialist’ on his forehead since he has some skills that he wants to polish adding that he wants to win by applying different methodologies.
Woodley said that for him just winning a bout is not everything it is the way you finish things off, the style that you follow while ending the bout. The bout, if finalised, will be an epic show of resilience and will test the duo’s agility and strength
and above all their capability to incapacitate an opponent.
