Tyrone Corbin and Sidney Lowe reunite again to rebuild Utah Jazz – NBA Update
Sidney Lowe, the former head coach of North Carolina (NC) State University was asked to resign from his University job about six months ago.
He did not have to wait much to land another job.
The former NBA player found a taker in Tyrone Corbin, the new head coach of Utah Jazz and his old team mate from Minnesota Timberwolves.
Tyrone had received a congratulatory call from his old friend Sidney after he was promoted to position of the head coach of Jazz and just after two months, Lowe called Tyrone Corbin again. However, this time it was for a different
purpose.
"I'm calling for a job" Sidney Lowe told Corbin in that second conversation. The proposition was accepted immediately.
Both Lowe and Tyrone seem pretty psyched at the prospect of re-uniting after almost two decades.
"I always respected him (Corbin) since we played together — class guy, great work ethic," Lowe said. "I thought it would be a great opportunity for me to again get with a great organization and also work with an old friend."
It would however be totally unfair to conclude that Lowe managed to fetch this job because of acquaintanceship. Lowe has been attached to NBA for almost twenty eight long years now, having coached two major NBA teams - Minnesota
Timberwolves and Memphis Grizzlies. He has also served as an assistant coach in three NBA franchises.
In his most recent college stint at NC, Lowe proved to be a successful coach. He took the job when no one else wanted it in 2006 and led his Alma Mater for five seasons, compiling an 86-78 record. This season however, he failed
to take his team to NCAA finals and was sacked immediately.
Lowe style of coaching is more adapted to NBA because of his experience and his coaching philosophy. Being a people’s person also gives him the edge.
Tyrone admires Lowe and he is well aware of his qualities.
“He has a great feel for where people are. With players that’s huge, because you’ve got to be able to reach different guys at different times in different places to get them to … work how you need to get better” Corbin said to
the Salt Lake Tribune.
Tyrone however faces a steep task of rebuilding the team that was put in dire straits when All Star point guard Deron Williams and veteran coach Jerry Sloan left during the middle of the last season. Utah Jazz have a young team
at disposal now and Sidney and his experience can prove to be a big help for Corbin.
