Tyrur Sugar Ray convinced about standing out in the 2012 Ladbrokes Irish Greyhound Derby Round 1 Heat 10
The tenth heat of the first round of the 2012 Ladbrokes Irish Greyhound Derby will be held at the Shelbourne Park over 550 yards on Thursday, 2nd August. The €250 race has attracted Tyrur Sugar Ray, Barefoot Duke, Cuil Cougar, Heady Days, Quail Hollow and Glanmire Jet.
Top Honcho’s son started racing just this season and has ranked third in the worst case scenario. The lightly raced hound won the first two starts of the career and to retain the form of the under charge, the trainer, Fahy, drilled him at the Shelbourne Park over 525 yards, first on 5th May and then on 25th May.
The trainings did not serve the intended purpose as the two-year-old black and white hound ended second in what was supposed to be the third and final leg of the hat-trick.
The two-year-old qualified as the runner-up in the Adverts@Sportingpress.Ie Open Puppy 525 on 2nd June, 2012 at the Shelbourne Park over 525 yards. The favourite entry took start from the middle division and settled right next to the winner, Allan Master, who won by the margin of 1 ½ lengths and timed the track distance in 28.70 seconds.
The favourite entry himself went through the wire in 28.82 seconds.
The next two races of the two-year-old reflected lack of conviction as both of them turned out to be failures, a second and then a third position.
The training session on 11th July, 2012 at the Shelbourne Park over 350 yards did wonders to the racing form of the black and white hound as he won the Townviewfoods.Com Champion Plate Semi-Final on 14th July, 2012 at the Shelbourne Park. The favourite entry raced from the very last spot to the first, took the rails side and led near the line timing the track distance in 29.88 seconds.
Barefoot Duke settled as the runner-up after missing the race by a length and concluding the race in 29.96 seconds.
The two-year-old out of, Maireads Fantasy, has been racing at the Shelbourne Park ever since his career began and was victorious in his last attempt there.
Preserving the winning composure will make him the first one through the wire in the race.
