Tyrur brothers blitz Irish Derby semi-finals
There was an expectedly large turnout at Shelbourne last night for the semi-finals of the 2010 Irish Derby. A night in which PJ Fahy once again stole the spotlight after kennel stars Tyrur Big Mike and brother Tyrur McGuigan pulled off blistering performances to score and qualify through to next weeks €120,000 final.
Any bettor.com readers to have taken up the tips from yesterdays piece would be quids in, as both tri-cast predictions were spot on.
Big Mike, who is trained by Conor Fahy (the 22-year old son of PJ), was drawn in a tough heat but pulverised the opposition as he flew out of trap three and raced clear from Tullymurry Act and Mesedo Blue.
The ante-post topper used all his reserves to power off the final bend and win in 29.28sec, a time which is seven spots (0.07sec) off the 550yards track record which College Causeway set last year and also the fastest time of this year‘s competition.
Tullymurry Act took second in 29.66sec, whilst Thurlesbeg Joker took the final qualifying spot (29.70sec) from the first semi.
The second semi-final was all about the early pace battle between trap five and six, lucky enough it was McGuigan who broke clear in the orange jacket in a similar fashion to brother Big Mike to take the early lead, but he also dug deep when it mattered to hold off Barefoot Bullet in the stripes by one spot (0.01sec) and cross the mark in 29.63sec.
English Derby finalist Krug Ninety Five once again managed to emulate his achievement by finishing third and securing the last spot in next weeks final.
A final in which Fahy has a very strong chance to triumph in if either of his duo can bring great early pace to the game.
In recent times, punters have seen big upsets in big finals after the favourites failed to pay out, If you feel the same is likely to happen and are seeking a value bet which may pay dividends, then I would suggest Paul Hennessy’s Barefoot Bullet (6-1) who I was lucky enough to back early on at 20-1.
Good luck.
Draw for Saturday’s final
T1 Tullymurry Act, T2 Krug Ninety Five (m), T3 Tyrur McGuigan (m), T4 Tyrur Big Mike (m), T5 Thurlesbeg Joker (m), T6 Barefoot Bullet (w).
