Tyrus Thomas injures calf muscle, out for two months for Charlotte Bobcats – NBA News
The Charlotte Bobcats were handed some bad news on Monday when they were told that their former number four draft pick, Tyrus Thomas, has suffered a calf injury and will be out for around two months. The Bobcats, a team struggling
to improve their record after finishing with the worst record in the history of the league last season, is looking for all the help it can find and losing a player is not the kind of news they were looking forward to. Thomas was giving the Bobcats some decent
minutes off the bench, but will now be kept away from action for two months.
“Charlotte Bobcats power forward Tyrus Thomas is expected to miss two months after a magnetic resonance imaging revealed a tear of the plantaris muscle in his left leg. The injury does not require surgery, but has a relatively
long recovery period,” reported Rick Bonnell of the Charlotte Observer.
In the absence of Thomas, the Bobcats will now be giving extended playing minutes to recently acquired Hakim Warrick. Warrick was acquired in a trade with the New Orleans Hornets just last week, by giving the Hornets Matt Carroll
in place of Warrick. He will have to quickly find his foot in the new team and adjust to the Bobcats brand of basketball because he will immediately be put into the deep end of the pool, with the Bobcats lacking depth in the bench particularly after the injury
to Thomas.
Warrick is a veteran to the NBA, and has some great defending abilities. However, it remains to be seen if he is able to provide the same kind of support on both ends of the floor that the Bobcats were used to getting from Thomas.
Warrick had 5 points and four rebounds in his debut for the Bobcats against the Memphis Grizzlies this past weekend, but the team will certainly be looking for much more contribution from his side now that Thomas is out. And he will get his chance next time
the Bobcats play, as he will get more minutes in the game and the opportunity to make a name for himself.
