Tyson Frizell, Matt Seamark join Wales squad – Rugby League news
The Wales coach, Iestyn Harris has harnessed the services of Tyson Frizell and Matt Seamark in the Gillette Four Nations Series line-up of Wales Rugby League, on Wednesday, September 14.
The Australian duo is part of the 35-man training squad which will be part of the practice sessions prior to the fixtures scheduled during Autumn against Australia, New Zealand and England teams.
While speaking about his selection of the two young Australian talents in rugby palette, Harris stated, “I’ve seen videos of their matches, they’ve held their hands up, their Welsh qualified and they desperately want to be involved with their national side.
They both look like high quality players and as they qualify and want to be involved, I’d be foolish to overlook them. We’ll get them in the training camp, see what they’re like in the flesh, see what intensity they train at and then see if we can put them
into the side.”
The duo’s immense passion for the game has made their selection a possibility. Frizell, made his debut for Cronulla this July in National Rugby League (NRL). Prior to this, he was playing for the alternate code of rugby.
Seamark, 24, is part of the Queensland Cup competition with Wynnum Manly, the feeder club of Brisbane Broncos.
The Welsh qualified players approached Harris themselves, while he was on the look-out for some fresh blood for his train-on squad, which will be part of the drills ahead of the clashes in Autumn. The duo’s immense passion for the game has led to their uptake
on the national level.
Other players who are amongst the recent recruits are Peter Lupton, Jamie Murphy and Dalton Grant.
Lupton has qualified through the Welsh residency criteria. Harris told reporters that Lupton is one of those players, who always wanted to represent Wales and for that matter, he deserves it as well. His performance with Welsh Rugby League over the past
three years helped Harris reach the decision quickly in taking him onboard.
