Tyson Fury downs Dereck Chisora to claim British and Commonwealth heavyweight titles – Boxing news
The 22-year-old Irish-English pugilist, Tyson Fury, has defeated the Del Boy, Dereck Chisora, in their Big Brawl fight on Saturday, July 23, 2011 at the Wembley Arena in London.
It was an enthralling battle which went all 12 rounds but in the end it was Fury who came far superior to Chisora in all departments and secured a unanimous points victory. Fury was awarded margins of 118-111, 117-112 and 117-112 by all three ringside judges.
Chisora declared a lot ahead of the bout but on the fight night Fury was simply too much for him. The 6 ft 9” giant, Fury, afterwards commented on his fight and told the media he was in the best shape of his career.
Though Fury admitted he was tired after 12 rounds of boxing, he claimed he could have gone another 8 rounds.
While speaking on his inclusion, he said, “I was in the best shape of my career tonight. I'm tired because I've boxed 12 rounds but to be honest I could have gone 20.”
The unbeaten Fury, who has now won all 15 of his professional fights including 10 by the way of a knockout, was asked why he could not knockout Chisora.
Fury replied by saying his hand was hurt and he could not unleash his best punch but on the same note he remarked he does not want to make any excuses, as he thinks in the end, it is all about 12 rounds of boxing.
Fury said, “I hit him with some good punches. I hit him with body shots, I hit him with head shots and wobbled him a few times.”
He added, “I might well have finished him and I'm not one to make excuses, but my hand is hurt and I don't tell any lies about that. I think I could have finished him if my hand wasn't hurt, but then again it's about 12-round boxing.”
Wladimir Klitschko openly said he will take on the winner of the Fury-Chisora bout which means Fury can possibly face Wladimir in his next fight.
