Tyson Fury to battle Ruslan Chagaev – Boxing News
Tyson Fury, the current Irish heavyweight champion and former British and Commonwealth heavyweight champion, wants to lock horns against Ruslan Chagaev, the former WBA heavyweight champion.
Fury is currently 24. He holds 19 wins with 0 losses. However, many critics believe Fury’s opponents have not been tough competition for him, which is why he has maintained his unbeaten streak. Fury’s recent opponents Vinny Maddalone and Nicolai Firtha were
one of the few being criticised as being under par for Fury.
Fury has been compared widely by his British counterpart David Price, who recently grabbed the British Commonwealth titles. Fury was being considered as a potential opponent for Price, but the former shrugged down the offers. This was when most critics believed
Fury does not want to lock horns against a powerful opponent.
However, now, the Irish-British fighter is keen on proving the naysayers wrong. Therefore, he has opted to fight Chagev, who is one of the most renowned heavyweight fighters around the globe. Chagev grabbed the WBA heavyweight title back in 2007. He lost
the title to Wladimir Klitschko in 2009 after defending it twice against two other opponents.
“He's top ten in the world, he's experienced, and I'm sure he's going to give me a tough fight,” said Fury, who believes a win against Chagev will be a career uplift for him.
“I think he'd beat [Jean-Marc] Mormeck, and you got [people] like [Tomasz] Adamek avoiding the fight. You've got [Sergiy] Liakhovich [as another option]. I think Chagaev is the best of the lot,” he added.
Fury was being considered among potential opponents for the Klitschko brothers but his recent escape from facing tough opponents such as David Price has attracted cynical criticism from analysts.
Nevertheless, as determined as ever, Fury wants to prove everyone wrong by defending his title against Chagev. According to Fury, Chagev is one of the most elite heavyweights in the world. The Irish-British fighter believes locking horns with Chagev is something
his fans would want. He wants to make the fight as exciting possible by giving his best performance in the ring, to ensure nobody ever calls him inferior again.
