Tyson g*y Wins 200m at Herculis International Athletics Meeting
American athlete Tyson g*y demonstrated his prowess on the track once again by setting a new track record at the Men's 200m at the Herculis International Athletics Meeting, at the Louis II Stadium in Monaco on Thursday.
The American had to stave off a frightening late challenge by Jamaica’s Yohan Blake with an outstanding performance. He recorded his personal by best shaving off almost a second from his previous best time.
Despite pulling off a win, g*y was left disappointed with his performance in the event, which saw him post a record time of 19.72 seconds.
Rated amongst the best in the business in the 100 and 200 meters event, the 27-year-old sprinter got off to a tremendous start. He surged ahead of his opponents and looked on course for a fairly comfortable win.
However, he was in for a rude shock as Blake, who was placed in the eighth lane on the track, came hurtling down like a man possessed as he almost closed the gap on the tiring American.
Blake, who is also the training partner of Usain Bolt, clocked a time of 19.78 seconds to finish at the second spot.
His brilliant late surge took him to his best ever time by almost a second.
Meanwhile, there was plenty of action in the rest of the races at the event as well, as the day saw some memorable performances.
There was plenty to cheer for the African fans as Kenya’s Silas Kiplagat went past Moroccan Amine Laalou in the men's 1,500 event.
The efforts saw Kiplagat post the best time for 2010 with a time of 3:29.27 seconds which lowered his personal best by five seconds as well.
On the other hand, the Cuban world champion Yargelis Savigne recorded the longest triple jump of the season, jumping a remarkable distance of 15.09 meters.
In the ladies events, an outstanding run by American Alysia Johnson gave her a resounding victory in the 800 meter race with a time of 1:57.34 seconds.
Ethiopian Sentayehu Ejigu also recorded her best time of the year in the 3,000 meter category, registering a time of 8:28.41 seconds.
Jamaican Jermaine Gonzales won the 400 meters with a time of 44.40 seconds, beating the 44.49 seconds record set by former world and Olympic champion Jeremy Wariner in Paris a few weeks ago.
Triple world long jump champion Dwight Phillips posted a distance of 8.46 meters on his first attempt to improve on his performance in Rome a few weeks ago.
American Carmelita Jeter ran 10.82 seconds to take the women's 100 meters from Olympic 200 meters champion Veronica Campbell-Brown of Jamaica.
Russian Ivan Ukhov confirmed he would be a favourite for the high jump title at next week's European championships in Barcelona by clearing a distance of 2.34 meters on his first attempt.
There was major disappointment for the American 110 meters hurdler David Oliver, who had targeted Dayron Robles' world record of 12.87 seconds. However, he hit two barriers on his way to the line to win in 13.01 seconds.
Despite failing to beat the world record, he succeeded in beating compatriot Ryan Wilson to the line. On the other hand, Lashinda Demus from the United States looked in complete control in the first few seconds in the women’s 400 meters. However, she was in for a rude shock as she lost her stride at the final barrier and was overtaken by eventual winner Kaliese Spencer of Jamaica.
