Tyson g*y beats the seemingly Unbeatable Usain Bolt
Usain Bolt is the current unstoppable force in running at the moment. He is the current world record holder in the 100 metres and seems to leave everyone in his dust every time he races. But it seems his pace has inspired a few runners to take up the Bolt challenge and try and beat him. Usain has been beaten twice previously; once two years ago by his compatriot Asafa Powell and yesterday by a very in form Tyson g*y. It seems Bolt was not 100% fit as he had just returned from injury but over the last few months Tyson g*y has been determined to beat him. He has been training extremely hard and this three way rivalry is turning out to be the best in the sport of running in recent years.
When Usain Bolt burst onto the athletic scene a few years ago, no one could have imagined what a huge force he was going to become in the sport. Lingering in his shadows at the time were two very talented runners, Asafa Powell and Tyson g*y. Even though they were extremely capable they were overpowered by Bolt time and time again. In 2008, Asafa Powell went on a huge surge and beat Bolt at Stockholm in the 100 metres. This was the first time Bolt had been beaten and it was a wakeup call to the tall Jamaican and he then went on a successive 14 win streak. It seemed like no one could beat him; but then entered the second man lingering in his long shadow, Tyson g*y.
Bolt’s second defeat came during the Diamond League meeting at Stockholm yesterday. g*y stormed to a time of 9.84 seconds and beat the Jamaican by 0.13 seconds. It was a phenomenal victory for the American and will give his confidence a serious boost, (BBC, 2010). The most interesting thing about this rivalry is the fact that the two runners could not be more different. Bolt is a very confident and sure of himself athlete, some might even go so far as to say he is slightly arrogant. The best example that can be seen of this was when he won the world record in the 100 metres race; he actually started celebrating before he had even won. Although a lot of people love Bolt for the fact that he is so confident while others are put off by it.
Tyson g*y on the other hand is one of the most down to earth athletes there is in the sport today. He is not loud or over confident, he just keeps plugging away at his sport and tries to make himself better. This was plainly seen when g*y had just beaten Bolt yesterday and was asked about the win in a post race interview. He stated that Bolt had just come back from injury and was not 100% and he would like to face him again when he is fit. He was claiming that his victory was nothing of his own doing even though it clearly was. This humbleness is a defining factor of the great American runner.
A recent article mentioned five things that g*y had to do in order to beat Bolt. Some of them are a little farfetched but they are still worth a mention to see if any of them worked in the American’s favour. First of all g*y had to ensure that he got an extremely fast start; which is exactly what he did yesterday. He managed to power out of the gate as if a pack of wild dogs was chasing after him and that was where he got the initial push that led to his victory. The next thing to do was to ignore his opponent and pretend that Bolt was not even there. Thirdly he had to think of the race as if it was the 200 metres in which he is a dominant force. Fourthly, g*y had to run as if he was really tall and get the power to his legs quicker than Bolt. Finally the last piece of advice given was that g*y had to get a little bit crazy, (Universal Sports, 2010). It seems he got plenty crazy as he stormed to victory.
The rivalry between these two runners, with Powell featuring as well when he returns from injury, is going to be one of the best contests that the world of athletics will see in a long time. In the future people will talk fondly about the time when the three best runners in the world all fought it out for supremacy in the field. This rivalry has the potential to make running an even bigger sport than it currently is. We will have to wait and see what these talented runners will bring us in the years to come.
