Tyson g*y gearing up for Brussels
After two impressive performances in the Diamond League that saw him topple Jamaican sensation Usain Bolt, Tyson g*y is geared up for the Brussels Diamond League edition where he will start out as the favourite to win in absence of Bolt and Powell - who have been ruled out of the event due to injuries.
Bolt has in fact ruled himself out of the ongoing season following a back injury that has put him off for a few months.
g*y, who has remained in the shadow of the more illustrious Bolt and Powell hopes that he would be able to hold his own in their absence and stamp his class in the ongoing season.
The sprinter added that he looked forward to the Diamond League finals in Brussels on Friday and would have liked to have a star studded line-up, as he was confident of building onto his success against Bolt when he toppled him at the Stockholm event earlier in the year.
Whilst Bolt suffers a back injury, the other leading athlete, Asafa Powell pulled out of the event due to a hamstring injury.
"I mean unfortunately things like this happen in our sport you know because of the hard quality of you know speed that we run, things like that, but this is just something we have to deal with and hopefully stay healthy and be able to compete more," g*y told the media ahead of the event.
g*y added that other than the win, the most important thing for him was to break into the top five athletes of the world and it was an immensely satisfying feeling for him.
He added that he was not pursuing any world record; rather he was keen on improving all the time.
"It's going to take hard work you know and the right conditions for me. I am not getting any younger so you know the sooner the better but that's the goal I am on."
Against Bolt, g*y recorded an impressive time of 9.78 seconds in the 100 meter showpiece event which was the best time of the ongoing year, bettering the 9.82 second run by Powell and Bolt.
He added that he was full of confidence after his historic triumph over Usain Bolt and wants to ensure that he relaxes totally on the track before heading out for competition.
The American concluded that he was more relaxed and patient than ever before and these traits should hold him in good stead for the event.
"I believe track and field is very mental so I think you have to be patient off the track as well as on the track. So you see a lot of sprinters with big muscles stuff like that and you try extremely hard to run fast and if you are not patient you rush your phases, your start, your middle and your finish of the race, you know and that can just mess up your whole race. And the hundred metres is about knocking off hundreds, tenths, and hundredths, thousandths of seconds to knock off your time so if you are patient in your race and relaxed I think the time will drop."
On the other hand, the event in Brussels is also an important one for South African world 800 meter champion Caster Semenya.
Semenya, who was forced on the side lines for most part of this year following a controversy over her gender, added that she still had more to do before being at her best physical form.
The opportunity at Brussels has excited her a great deal and she added that she looked forward to racing.
"I cannot tell you how excited I am but yes, I am quite happy to move back especially for the competitions so yes, I really missed the competitions so it is what I have been looking for when I was young, so yes," Semenya said.
