Tyson g*y sets new World record
Tyson g*y blazed away to another world record, for the 200m straight with a breathtaking run at the Great City Games in Manchester. World 100 m silver medallist rushed head of Kim Collins to set a time of 19.41 seconds and beat Tommie Smiths record by 0.09 seconds, which was set 44 years ago.
g*y was understandably overjoyed "It was truly amazing and it was a tough record to break," Texan Smith, who is a legend of the sport, and also won Gold in 1968 Olympics was there to witness the Record set by g*y, and said, "It was a great race."
Usain Bolt who is Olympic and world sprint champion was though not present in Manchester to answer a record set by his biggest rival, but it was a big message sent out by g*y at the start of a new season. Despite having tired legs, g*y clocked a phenomenal time of 9.88 in the opening 100 metres, and finished up with the second 100 metres in 9.53.
The former 110 m world champion Collins was no match for g*y as he finished 2nd with 20.59 seconds, and Ireland’s Paul Hession was 3rd with 20.66 seconds. g*y added that "Going into the race I knew it was going to be tough to beat the record," "It was pretty hard for the first 100m or so and I was extremely tired. Kim Collins had an excellent start and I think that motivated me to get down the street."
g*y had been in impressive form coming into the race, Winning the 400m at the Tom Jones Classic in Gainesville, he became the first man to go under 10 seconds 100m, 20 seconds for the 200m and 45 seconds over 400m. g*y, who finished with silver in the 100m at the 2009 World Championships behind Bolt, missed the showdown with the Jamaican in the 200m because of a groin injury.
g*y now seems fit and ready to push Bolt all the way, After an operation last November the sprinting stage looks set for more fireworks in the coming months, considering the form of Jamaican Asafa Powell, who ran 9.81 at the inaugural Diamond League meeting in Doha. g*y Acknowledges the fact that Bolt is in a league of his own, but he is working towards catching up:” He’s in another class right now but I'm working hard to get there. The challenge is for me to work hard to get to where he is at."
7 May 1966 was the day when, the world record for the 200m over the straight was last broken, by smith in San Jose by Smith at the age of only 21, when he covered the distance in 19.5 seconds. In 1966 he missed the world 100m records by 0.1 second but set world records around a bend over 200eters, and sprinted a 400-meter relay in 43.8, at a time when no man had run faster than 44.9 from blocks.
The straight 200m was treated as a separate world record event In the 1960s, for men before IAAF deleted this variation from its list of official records.
