We have a 91 yr old house that we would like to Tyvek so it is weatherproof. It is tougne and groove 1X4's as sheeting and then on top of that is wood siding and then on top of that is stucco. We plan to rip the stucco off for sure but do we also haveto remove the siding? Can we Tyvek on top of the siding?

  1. It can be installed both ways.  If your not worried about insulating, then installing it directly over the uncovered veneer will be OK.  Just be sure that all your Tyvek joints are taped together and all the flashing around the windows is installed in a manner in which to allow proper rainwater protection.  Good luck!

  2. No. Tyvek needs to be at the point where it is wrapping the insulation for maxmum effectiveness.

  3. i would remove the siding but u dont have too....u can staple the tyvek over the siding and then install a new siding if thats what ur going for...but u did state that stucco was on top of the siding i dont see how u can save the siding there now....tyvek is a moisture barrier not a weatherproofer....it will cut down on drafts and moisture on the wall areas...
