U-19 US women seal the series by 3-1 in US and Chile Four Test Series
The American Under-19 Junior women sealed the series in their name after defeating the host nation, Chile, by 2-0 in the last match of the series, played on April 24, at the Manquehue Club in Chile. The series ended up with a 3-1 victory for the US over
the Chilean team, in the four Test series.
During the first half, the guest team took the lead over the Diablitas in the early minutes of the match. A US junior player, Abby Beltrani, shared a pass with her team-mate, Allison Evans, near the defensive circle of Chile. With the last minute ticking
for the first half to end, Evans struck a shot that went past the Chilean goal-keeper into the net and the score-board opened at 1-0.
The second half went quite much off the flow with the ball possession being retained by the US throughout the game. US attempted shots, but were tactfully denied by the Chilean defenders. However, US managed to add up another goal on the score-board by the
end of the second half.
This goal was a combined effort of Nikki Parsley, who found Maxine Fluharty open in the opponent’s circle and shot a pass. Fluharty sealed the second goal of the team, closing the match at a 2-0 score win.
The US U-19 women Head Coach, Carla Tagliente, commented, “There was tremendous growth over the course of this series and today we did a great job of putting it all together. Obviously, we are pleased with the results but what is most rewarding is to see
the commitment the athletes have shown to the process and to individual and team improvement."
Furthermore, she added, “This is the final competition for the U19 team. They will now play for their Junior or Senior High Performance Centers and compete at the Women’s National Championship or Junior National Championship and stand for selection for
Junior National Camp, which is later this summer, July 12-15 at Old Dominion University.”
During the Chile tour, the US team displayed their best in the field against the host nation by winning the series. These junior women have previously proved themselves in the Canadian series played in March that they had the potential to beat down a team,
even if it more physically and strategically competitive.
Three of the capable American Junior women, who featured in the Chile series, missed the previous Canadian tour held in March. However, they got their chance to represent the U-19 squad in this Netherland tour. These three players are namely Emily Wold,
Maxine Fluharty and Maddy Carpenter.
