Question:

U MD College Park Guest Parking?

My gf will be going to Univerisity of Maryland (U MD, UMD) College Park this fall. I will be visiting her and I want to know about overnight parking in the campus.

Mowatt Lane Garrage is the nearest parking facility for guests but its closed overnight.

I could park in most of the parking lots but then I would have to wake up early in the morning and move my car to Mowatt before 7 AM when they start towing or issuing tickets.

I dont mind taking public transportation either (I live in Baltmore).

Does anybody know whats the best way to park in U MD College Park?

  1. I think Mowatt Lane was recently switched to a 24/7 facility.

There are two conflicting web sites about the Mowatt Lane garage. According to this web site, http://www.transportation.umd.edu/visito... it is open 24/7. But, I see that there is this other page:

    http://www.transportation.umd.edu/parkin...

    that lists the evening closure.

You might want to call 301-314-PARK to confirm, and to let them know there is an incorrect page on their web site.

Sorry I don't have too much insight about cheap parking. Maybe she will eventually befriend someone who lives in a residential area nearby, such as College Park Woods (where several students rent rooms in houses), and you could leave your car for a day or two over there.

  2. If your girlfriend had a parking permit, she could use it on your car... (hint hint)

If you want to take public transportation, you could technically take the Camden line MARC train from Baltimore directly to College Park Metro Station and take the shuttle right to campus on weekdays. On weekends, there are almost no parking restrictions in the lots, and you'd be able to park overnight without a problem.

Update: Non students are absolutely allowed to take the shuttle; it runs whenever Metro is open.
