  1. There were philosophical reasons people will tell you about, but there are also practical reasons.

White cloth is easy to make. Red and blue are easy dyes to make. If the flag had been purple, orange, and green, it would have been much harder to make in large quantities, even if just for things like ships and post offices.

  2. Here ya go...

"My colors symbolize the patriotic ideals and spiritual qualities of the citizens of my country.

My red stripes proclaim the fearless courage and integrity of American men and boys and the self-sacrifice and devotion of American mothers and daughters.

My white stripes stand for liberty and equality for all.

My blue is the blue of heaven, loyalty, and faith."

  3. At first,  they also added a stripe for each new state, but I think once they got to 15, they realized this wouldn't work too well and just kept the original 13.

  4. Same colors as British flag.  Forefathers were politically astute but not that artistic.

  5. The stripes represent the original 13 colonies; the stars represent the 50 states of the Union. The colors of the flag are symbolic as well: Red symbolizes Hardiness and Valor, White symbolizes Purity and Innocence and Blue represents Vigilance, Perseverance and Justice.
