U.S.A. defeats Brazil in the World League pool match by 3-1: Volleyball news
In a dramatic Federation Internationale de Volleyball (FIVB) World League match on Saturday, June 25, between the U.S. men’s volleyball team and Brazil, the Americans were able to come out strong and defeat their opponents by 3-1.
The 4,000 fans at Reynolds Center had not expected a brilliant performance from the fifth ranked U.S. team as they had suffered a 3-1 defeated the previous day at the hands of the number one ranked Brazilians. However, this time around the tables were turned
in favour of the U.S. as they managed a victory with the final set scores of 25-20, 25-23, 22-25 and 25-23.
Reid Priddy, the U.S. captain, talked about the two matches that his squad had played againstthe Brazilians and said, "We seem to play more like a team on the second night. We just weren't able to put it together (Friday) night. We were happy to fight through
the match (Saturday) - it was obviously extremely difficult - and come out with a win."
After having played them earlier, the Americans knew the Brazilian team’s weaknesses and had figured out how to capitalise on their own strengths. The planning and strategy paid in dividends and as a result, the Americans were able to get the lead early
and pushed the Brazilians back at 15-11. Clay Stanley of the U.S. played an important part in giving his team the advantage by making three consecutive service aces. Once they had their confidence up, the U.S. did not let go of their dominance on the courts
and were able to see the opening set of the game through to the end at 25-20.
The second set of the game saw the Brazilian team make some crucial violations that cost them the advantage. The Brazilians made three hitting errors one after the other and also got themselves a yellow card. This eventually led the Americans to jump on
the Brazilians instability by taking the lead and going on to win the second set of the game at 25-23.
Being two sets down from the U.S. team did not sit well with the Brazilians who came out in the third set with added energy. The Brazilians took the lead at 8-4 but the Americans were able to pull up to 18-17. However, the Brazilians did not let the U.S.
squad cross them and were able to finish off the third set on their terms at 25-22.
The Americans did not lose confidence and went on to seal the deal on the fourth set of the game by bagging it at 25-23.
With their recent win, the U.S. team has been able to improve their pool play record to 6-4, sharing second place with Poland.
