U.S.A versus Canada – Gold Cup: Second half review
Canada started off the second half in a much brighter fashion than the first one as they created two good goal scoring opportunities inside the American penalty area in the 48th minute. At first it was De Jong who fired
wide before De Rosario failed to capitalize on a mistaken in the American http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Defence-c38904 by hitting his shot straight into Tim Howard’s hands.
Trailing America by a goal to nil from the first half, http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Michael-Bradley-c25275. Both the midfielders were booked as a result of their non-sporting conduct on the
field. In the 54th minute, scorer of America’s first goal, http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Jozy-Altidore-c19634 had a brilliant chance to get their second of the match as he headed the ball towards Lars Hirschfeld’s goal. The Canadian goalkeeper was in the right position to gather the
ball despite the power on Altidore’s header.
In the 59th minute, Agudelo was sent clean through on goal via Clint Dempsey’s pass but the American national failed to finish off the chance as his shot was wide of the mark once again. http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/America-c38390 began to get a foothold
in the match around the 60th minute as Dempsey’s overhead kick just missed the Canadian goal by a few inches. In the 61st minute, Johnson unleashed a wonderful strike at Tim Howard’s goal which had the experienced goalkeeper beaten. Luckily
for the U.S.A national soccer team, the shot sailed past the goal without troubling Howard.
In the 62nd minute, Clint Dempsey finally doubled America’s lead as he pounced on Agudelo’s low cross. The Fulham midfielder showcased striker like tendencies with his movement as he came across his defender to tap the
ball in with his studs as the score line reached 2-0 in favour of U.S.A at Ford Field in Detroit, Michigan. Agudelo was replaced shortly after the goal by http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Chris-Wondolowski-c9038 as the Americans went on the defensive.
In the 65th minute, Will Johnson was replaced on the Canadian side by Ali Gerba. America’s second goal came as a shock to the Canadians who dominated the second half up till Dempsey’s first goal of the match. After the
goal, the Canucks looked second best in the midfield region as Bradley and co. slowed down the tempo of the match to avoid any unnecessary injuries. In the end, the match came to a conclusion with the score line at 2-0 in favour of the home side. America’s
two goals were scored by Altidore and Dempsey. The first one came in the first half whereas the second half was scored in the 62nd minute.
