I need a correct answer on this because I have so many people telling me alot of different things just seeing what else I can find out. I ETS get out of the Army April 2010 I am here at my current duty station until July or Aug 2009 that will leave me with 8 oor 9 months left until I am out of the Army can or will the Army PCS me to new duty station with that amount of time left on contract? I have been told I would have to sign a Declination statement and that I would stay put at this assignment but have also been told that the Army will PCS me and family not sure what is true I dont think the Army knows what to do I think they are trying to scare me into Reenlistment with declination horror stories on how it ruins a perfect 8 year enlistment. But if I am getting out with honorable discharge how can that hurt me?

  1. you may recieve an assignment tod that goes beyond your exit date and you can decline and remain and finish your current assignment and stay where you are until your exit date.  it wont hurt you in any way to decline a tod that contains an extension beyond your exit date.

  2. 8 years invested in the military, 12 more years and you get a retirement check, for life!

and young enough to start a second career!

  3. With 8 - 9 months left on your enlistment, the Army will not spend the money to PCS you, especially with a family in tow.

It is possible that the Army can give you orders to a new station.  At that point, if you are still desiring to separate, you would sign a Declination form.

Something similar happened to me when I was in the AF.  I had about 3 years in and they gave me orders to Elmendorf AK.  I said "NO", signed the Declination form because I was going to get out.   About a month later, they gave me another set of orders (actually 2 sets)  one to Korea with a direct follow-on to England.  At that point, I said "OK, what the heck" and accepted the orders.  Of course I had to Extend my enlistment for 3 years.

Declining your orders will not hurt your Discharge.

I was told ......  you supposedly can decline 1 PCS order in a career.  If you decline a second time, that would prevent you from being able to Reenlist.  Since I only declined 1x, I can't give you a for certain on the 2x.

Give a call to the Retentions office at CBPO.  They would be the ones to give you the Actual scoop.
