Most off these idiots answers are wrong. MOST. All except last one, kinda.
Rangers- most elite form of light infantry. Think marines+everything on steriods. They can shoot farther, go faster and attack harder than any other force out there. To get to Ranger Reg, one must go through RASP then go through 1/2-1 year of training. Then they are usually sent to Ranger School due to their NCO status but not always. They are a SPEARHEAD group. They are a Tier two group.
Special Forces (Green Berets)- Also Tier Two group. Small groups and more focus on small units tactics. They get alot more training and are required to have a degree and learn a language. After 3 week tryout the go to Qcourse (if they get selected) which is a yearlong training (unless your a medic) before graduating and earning the right to be called SF and go to your unit for further training. Called force multpliers because they teach whatever theyre specialty is to indegenous forces creating often a platoon of warriors. Also conduct counter-terrorism warfare, unconventional warefare (guerilla, covert, etc), and security.
SF is more teaching and thinking with action while Rangers are all action.
SF go in behind enemy lines make an army an keep peace in the area, Rangers go in, do their objective and kill.
Both totally different. cant compare. SF has more training but has a different objective of teaching while rangers go in and getirdone and get out.

In d**k Couch's book, Chosen Soldier, he follows a SF class through their training. One candidate who was a Ranger trying out for SF, stated in the book that Ranger School was more physically challenging where as SF selection and assessment was more mentally challenging. SF looks for leaders and team players, super soldiers that can't play nice with others aren't usually found in SF. If you are truly interested read Chosen Soldier by d**k Couch or The Covetted Black and Gold, not sure who wrote the last one buts its a book written about Ranger training. I recommend you buy and read both and make your own well informed decision.
