U.S. Boys’ Youth National Team loses to Brazil by 0-3: Volleyball news
The U.S. Boys’ Youth National Team played against Brazil in the semi-final of the Boys’ Youth Under-19 Pan American Cup that took place on Friday, July 15. The match was played in Mexicali, Mexico and saw the Americans go down to the Brazilians in a clean
sweep.
The Brazilians won the first set of the match with relative ease as the Americans took some time coming into form. The U.S. squad played the second set fiercely but it was not enough to stop the Brazilians from securing a win. Having lost the first two sets
of the game, the Americans were hard put to secure a win and give themselves a chance. However, the Brazilians ended all American hopes by bagging the third set and winning the match at the following final set scores: 25-19, 25-23 and 25-21.
The start of the first set of the match went well for both the teams as the score was tied at 2-2 as well as 4-4. However, the Brazilians propelled themselves forwards and were able to take the lead at 15-9. But the U.S squad was able to restrict their rivals
and closed in the gap at 13-15. Eventually, the determined attack of the Brazilian squad enabled it to stretch their advantage at 21-17. The closet that the Americans came to the Brazilians was 19-22 after which Brazil put on a spurt of speed and finished
off the first set of the game at 25-19.
The Americans were able to get their first lead of the match at the start of the second set of the game at 3-2 which they were able to extend till 7-5. The Americans were still leading at 13-11 with the Brazilians trying hard to break free of the U.S. dominance.
Brazil was eventually successful in doing so as it got the advantage for the first time in the second set at 14-13. However, the U.S. team did not let the Brazilians get comfortable and tied the score at 14-14. The match went back and forth and no one was
sure where the table would turn as the score was still tied at 22-22. However, Brazil came off as the better side as they were able to seal the deal at 25-23.
Building on the momentum generated by winning the previous set, the Brazilians were able to take the lead at 7-4 in the third set. After trying to take control by tying the match at 11-11, the U.S. squad let the Brazilians get away after taking the lead
at 15-12. The U.S. side kept trailing until the Brazilians had bagged the third set at 25-21.
Having lost the semi-final, the Americans will now be moving towards the bronze medal match with a record that shows two wins and two losses. On the other hand, the Brazilians are heading for the championship match after having registered three wins with
no defeats.
