U.S History essay, need ideas?

I don't understand what my teacher means. The topic: History is about "first" or "turning points" that make a change in the world?

She gave us an example about how dinosaurs were extinct and another one about 9/11 and how it has affected us.

I don't know what to write about. Can you explain to me what the question/topic means? and also if you can include some ideas I could write about. Thanks in advance =)

(it has to be about world history- since we took it last year and "we don't know anything about U.S history")
