Congratulations to the Men's for a great run all the way through a difficult final match for the gold medal versus Brazil - - NBC color commentators made the point about the age being 30 or so - - do collegiate players get a chance to try out or is it a matter of playing for "B" teams before you advance to the squad that plays at the World and Olympic levels? Apparently there is one player who has played for four Summer Olympics (2008, 2004, 2000, 1996). . .

  1. When it comes to who makes the national volleyball team age and experience  is an important part of the equation along with talent. So it's not a matter of collegiate players not getting a chance as much as using the best players available Yes players with less experience usually have to wait until veterans retire or are injured.

After all like many of the Olympic sports volleyball uses the best athletes from around the world that play in the pro leagues from Brazil, Japan and Italy as well other European leagues. Sending a team of fresh face collegiate  players will no longer get the job done at the tough International level with veteran players.

Lloy Ball is the name of the player who is in his 4th Olympics and it's a great job on his part to commit another four years to playing on the men's national team. Who also benefited from being able to play overseas in Europe as well as it's a little tough in the USA to support your self as an indoor volleyball player.
