U.S. OPEN GOLF TOURNAMENT -- who are you "rooting for" ??

Had no idea "rooting" could mean something else - I meant it as "who are you hoping will win?"

In fact, Merriam Webster's Dictionary supports my use of the word:

root

Pronunciation: \ˈrüt also ˈru̇t\

Function: intransitive verb

Etymology: perhaps alteration of 2rout

Date: 1889

1 : to noisily applaud or encourage a contestant or team : cheer

2 : to wish the success of or lend support to someone or something

— root·er noun

  1. I always root for Phil.  He's my favorite golfer.  He's gonna need a very strong third round, though, if he wishes to contend on Sunday.

  2. Tiger all the way....hasnt played since the masters and is in 2nd place in the toughest US tourny....hes the man...i dont care who hates him lol

  3. anyone besides tiger. but i would really like for sergio or phil to win the most.

  4. The world's #1 golf player - Tiger Woods.

  5. I support Stuart Appleby being an Aussie, but I would like to see Geoff Ogilvy do it again.

Be careful if you say "rooting" to an Aussie as it means something completely different, like horizontal dancing!

I don't think I could ever support Woods as he treats it so much like a job rather than a fun game to play.  He hardly ever smiles unlike many other players, even Mickelson smiles.

  6. stewart appbley alll the way

  7. Jim Furyk

  8. Tiger, duh, but if i had to pick someone not obvious, i'd have to say Stewart Cink

  9. Jim Furyk and Stewart Cink are probably my favorite golfers, but in this US Open you gotta be rooting for Rocco Mediate; he's playing awesome and always smiling. But considering Tiger is only one stroke back with two days to go, you gotta believe he will win his 14th major sunday
