U.S. Open 2010:  Enraged Andy Roddick knocked out by Janko Tipsarevic
Known for his temperament issues, Roddick confirmed that he’s extremely hot headed when he lashed out at a lineswoman in his second round match against Janko Tipsarevic at the 2010 U.S. Open.
The short-tempered American had an outburst on-court as the linesperson called a ‘foot fault’ on his second serve. It was however, concluded that the linesperson’s call was indeed correct. Similar to a number of other players, the heat seemed to have gotten to Roddick’s head.
Déjà vu, was it? Who could have thought history would repeat itself and Roddick would carry on Serena Williams’ legacy?
As much fun as it was witnessing Tipsarevic on court, the spectators were rather shocked and disappointed by the tantrum Andy threw during the match.
Incidentally, the lineswoman called a foot fault on the wrong foot. As irritated as Roddick already was, the call seemed to have triggered his emotions. The linesperson stated that Andy’s right foot was on the line while he was serving.
Shortly after Andy threw a fit, replays showed that the lineswoman was correct about the foot fault but wrong about which foot went over the line. Apparently, it was his left foot and not his right.
Roddick and Tipsarevic went nip and tuck throughout the match until the Serb finally annihilated his fellow professional. Andy took the first set six games to three. Roddick seemed to have lost his spark in the second set, as Janko bagged the set seven games to five.
Proceeding further, in hot conditions, Tipsarevic managed to keep his cool to take the third set six games to three. As Janko carried on with his antics, Andy was losing his mind on the contrary. The sportsman nevertheless, could not contain himself and ended up facing defeat at the hands of the Serb.
Tipsarevic took the deciding fourth set seven games to four. Janko Tipsarevic was seen throwing both his hands up in the air to rejoice shortly after he eliminated Roddick from the tournament. Janko’s groundstroke shots and 66 winners were clearly enough to attain victory.
Roddick stated that Tipsarevic played very high risk and executed for four sets. Furthermore, Andy said, “I kept telling myself, 'You know, this has to have an expiration date on it.' Unfortunately, I needed another set for that.”
Apparently, Andy wasn’t the only individual in dismay. A crowd of up to 23,000 at the Arthur Ashe Stadium became relatively quieter as Tipsarevic advanced and eventually took the game. Seems like Roddick ended up disappointing the nation in a big manner.
