U.S. President Barack Obama stirs up Lebron James for Chicago Bulls
It’s common for all stars to be stalked and pestered by fans but by political leaders... that’s new. President Barack Obama has joined in the race to lure in LeBron James to his hometown of Chicago.
The story might seem familiar to you and the reason would be James’s free agent phase which would start from the 1st of July. It’s been speculated and hinted by him that the star might make a move towards the Chicago Bulls.
In a statement, Obama said, “You know, like I said, I don't want to meddle. I will say this: (Derrick) Rose, Joakim Noah it’s a pretty good core. You know, you could see Lebron fitting in pretty well there.” Well he does know how not meddle then. Actually we have seen that before.
This summer, James will get his license to become a free agent, a topic which is creating rumours all over the place. From Friday to Thursday, news agencies are doing the rounds about James being transferred to one team or the other. However, no official statements have been made by James as yet. It’s apparent that James wants to think it through before he leaves his hometown. The topic is boiling up largely due to the Cleveland Cavaliers defeat against the Boston Celtics that eventually brought their march to a halt in a dream run to win the title.
Obama further on said on the issue, “I think that the most important thing for Lebron right now is actually to find a structure where he’s got a coach that he respects and is working hard with teammates who care about him and if that’s in Cleveland, then he should stay in Cleveland.” He then added, “If he doesn’t feel like he can get it there, then someplace else.”
Obama also said that James is in a similar situation to Michael Jordan. He needs to trust the Bulls because when Jordan worked with the Bulls, the team went on to win six NBA championships in the 1990’s.
He further explained, “It wasn’t until you got that framework around you that you could be a champion. Same thing happened with Kobe (Bryant). You know, I think that, first with Shaq (O'Neal) then later with (Pau) Gasol, you know, he’s gotten that sense of a team around him and I think LeBron hasn’t quite been able to get that yet. That’s what he needs to find.”
Earlier, the Mayor of New York City, Michael Bloomberg said that if Lebron asks about the living style in New York, he was ready with a ‘big sales pitch’. He said, “What’s it like to live in New York, I’ll give him a big sales pitch for New York”. This proves the gossip about James possible move to Knicks or Nets.
Mayor Bloomberg also said, “Rumours are that both the Knicks and the Nets would like to get him. I would never take sides on that, but I think it would be great for New York if he would come here.” He certainly needs to realize what the word campaign means.
The Clevelanders and the Ohio governor Ted Strickland aren’t far behind either as both men have come up with interesting campaigns on television with their jingles to cajole James to stay.
Mayor Don Plusquellic of Akron, where James spent his early years (an hour’s drive from Cleveland), had some words to say. He said, “Who the h**l would want to live in New York?” Being the advocate of his city, he said, “It’s not a cold place where everybody is just a number. New York is not so warm and fuzzy.”
Joakim Noah wants James to join the Bulls. He said, “I’m excited to have a chance to play with the best player in the world. That’s always your goal, to play at the highest level with the best players in a place like Chicago. It’d be a great opportunity to one day win a championship.”
Noah gave Cleveland a blow when he made his move from the Cavs to the Bulls in this April. He had his reasons for the transfer; mostly saying that the city was boring in respect to James. His earnest wish came to the foray when he said, “I hope he comes.”
Well, there have been rumours of Phil Jackson’s pay cut issues going on at the Los Angeles Lakers and he too was considering a move to the Bulls. So you never know.
