U.S Sitting Volleyball team sweeps Canadians in a Para Panamerican Zonal Championship match
The U.S. sitting volleyball team had a match with the Canadian team on September 28, as part of the Para Panamerican Zonal Championship that is currently being held in Sao Paulo, Brazil. It did not take long for the American’s to earn a win by making a clean
sweep over their opponents. By the time that the day was out, the final set scores stood at the following points: 25-9, 25-20 and 25-22.
The head coach of the U.S. team made the following comments at the press conference after his squad had clinched the win: "I was pleased to see us play well early and establish a balanced attack. It was also good to see our younger players competing when
the sets were close. We will have to correct our unforced errors if we want to compete with Brazil and Colombia tomorrow.”
The Americans were able to outplay the Canadians in almost all aspects of the match but particularly, they were strong in their serving as well as blocking. This combination worked well to stop the Canadians from scoring and gaining any head-way in the match.
The first set of the match saw the Americans come out strong as they were able to take the lead early on and shift the pressure towards their opponents. Once they had the advantage, the Americans did not look back and marched on at great speed to bag the
opening set of the game at 25-9.
The Canadians played better in the second set of the game and kept the score close. As the set progressed, the Americans fell to making errors that gave the advantage to the Canadians. However, the Americans were not going to let the Canadians get away and
they were able to speed up and take the second set of the game at 25-20.
The Canadians improved their game further in the third set of the match by working on their passing skills. This provided the Americans with a challenge as the struggled to keep the Canadians in check. The match went back and forth for some time but as it
reached the final stages, the Americans were able to better the Canadians and secure a win at 25-22.
Next in line for the American sitting squad is a match with the Colombian team that will take place on Thursday. After having played with the Columbian side, the Americans will be contesting with the Brazilians later on.
The top scorer on the American side was their captain, Katie Holloway, as she was able to tally a total of 20 points for her team. She was able to accomplish this by pulling off 13 kills, five blocks as well as two aces.
