U.S. Tax return filing date??

The IRS wants to know what date I filed my taxes. I completed & signed the return and dated it in October, but didnt get around to sending it til November. What would be my official filing date? i thought it would be Nov... but someone else tells me its the date I signed it

If you didn't send it until November, then it wasn't filed in October.  Tell them the date you sent it, and that it was mailed.  Your actual filing date will be later than that, since is would be a few days until they actually got it.
