U.S. Women Sitting Volleyball team sweeps Ukraine to get gold: ECVD Continental Cup
The U.S. Women Sitting Volleyball team was able to make their country proud on Saturday, September 10, as they brought home the champion’s title of the ECVD Continental Cup that was taking place in Yevptoriya, Ukraine.
The U.S. squad was up against raised odds as they were competing with the host team of Ukraine for the gold medal. However, the Americans were able to show an impressive performance in the match as they got the victory after making a clean sweep over their
Ukrainian counter-parts. By the time that the Americans had started celebrating their final win, the score board showed the following final set scores: 25-20, 25-23 and 25-22.
The head coach of the U.S. team, Bill Hamiter, made the following comments at the win his team was able to accomplish: "I was very pleased with how the ladies competed, especially in a tougher format. We are continuing to show signs of progressing toward
our goal of working to win a gold medal in London."
On the other hand, the U.S, assistant coach Cara Lang shared her feelings in the following words: “The girls worked extremely hard in this well-fought match as Ukraine pushed us to play at a high level to get the job done. The scores were fairly even throughout
each set and we were able to capitalize on the last five points of each set before Ukraine.”
The first set of the match started off with both teams battling hard to gain dominance on the court. The match stayed tight for the most part but as the frame progressed, the Americans were able to get the lead and stick with it until the very end. All the
Ukrainians could do was to trail behind till the U.S. won the set at 25-20.
The loss of the opening set of the game triggered a more energetic response from the Ukrainians in the second set. As a result, what followed was a competition that was filled with intensity and sparks flying until the Americans were able to bag the set
at 25-23.
The third set was tough as well but the Americans played consistently all through and were able to achieve a win at 25-22.
