U.S. Women team makes way to semi-final – VI Pan Am Cup
The U.S. Women’s National Volleyball Team finished the preliminary robin round of the VI Pan American Cup Volleyball Tournament with a score of 3-0.
The Pan American Cup is an annual women’s volleyball tournament, which is solely dedicated to the teams from North & Central American and Caribbean Federation. This year’s edition of the Pan Am Cup is scheduled to complete its run from June 13-18 and a total
of 10 teams are on board to fight for supremacy. United States is one of the top contenders of the tournament. The first round of the tournament rounded off on Wednesday, June 15, while U.S. team successfully qualified for the next stage of quarter-finals.
U.S. team started the campaign on Monday and saw women from Bahamas in the opening match. The opponents didn’t post any scare of defeat on American side. U.S. team was equipped with experienced players and it was an easy task for them to subdue Bahamas’
team. The American head coach Gordon Mayforth worked out a great game plan for his team. Team Bahamas couldn’t deal with strong rivals and put up a low score, which was never enough to save them from regret. U.S. team was better in attack and defence. They
dominated the opponents and easily rallied past them in straight sets. U.S. team posted 3-0 (25-14, 25-12, and 25-12) victory over Bahamas and bagged early success in the Pan American Cup Volleyball Tournament. The match was held at Centre Robert, Guertin,
Gatineau, Quebec.
In the second encounter on Tuesday, U.S. team claimed victory over Panama. American side sent 3-0 (25-14, 25-14, and 25-11) on board and added second win to their count. Team Panama was already down with a humiliating defeat from Argentina in the opening
match on Monday. American team added more fuel to their injury in the next match. Panama side had a weak defence, which caused them major damage. U.S. team gained full control of the operations with the help of sensible play. They captured all three sets of
the game with huge margin and did get reward in the form of match-success.
Team USA booked a slot in the semi-final by beating Argentina in third match on Wednesday, June 15. They built up a score of 3-0 (25-15, 25-21, and 25-19) to claim the match. Argentina was comparatively better team than the previous two competitors were.
It was the major threat for U.S. team but they did well and did not allow Argentina to hinder their performance. U.S. Team will now play in the semis and they have great plans to claw their way to the top.
Juan Manuel Cichello, the head coach of Argentinean team regretted the loss of important match but he called it a good learning experience. He expressed his views after the match. He stated, “This was a great way for us to prepare for the world junior championship.
he U.S., have an incredible defensive-blocking system and we were nervous against that. It’s a learning process.”
His American couther-part, Gordon Payforth praised the strong defence of Argentinean saqud. He said, “Argentina has played great defence at this tournament and we knew we had to be at our best today. I was aware of the points situation and we worked our
players hard. We really wanted that day off tomorrow.”
