U.S Women’s Sitting Volleyball team beats England to advance to semi-finals of ECVD Continental Cup
The U.S Women’s Sitting Volleyball team had a match on Thursday, September 8, that was played against Great Britain. The contest was part of the ECVD Continental Cup that is currently taking place in Yevpatoriya, Ukraine. The match between America and England
did not take long to reach its close as the U.S. was able to make a clean sweep over their opponents and tally yet another win.
Not only did America make a clean sweep over their opponents, they did so by winning each set of the game by a comfortable margin. The English side could barely manage to trudge on as the Americans speeded forwards to bag the opening set in lightning fashion.
The start of the second set saw some competition from the English players but they could not challenge the American team for long and ended up losing another one by a significant gap. Like in the previous set, the English side showed some signs of life initially
but the sparks all died down as the Americans marched on to win the match at the following final set scores: 25-9, 25-13 and 25-15.
The tournament has been going great for the U.S team so far as they have been able to tally a total of six wins while not losing a single match. The 6-0 record has enabled the Americans to finish pool play in flying colours and move on to the semi final
round that will be commencing from Friday.
The Americans were able to outperform the English in almost every aspect of the match. The U.S. attack was stronger as it was able to register a total of 30 kills while the British could only put up 14 of them. On the service side, the Americans managed
to throw a total of 17 well timed aces while the English could only muster one.
On the American side, the player that was able to score the most points was Brenda Maymon with 12 of them. She managed the lot after having executed three service aces, eight kills and a block.
A satisfied Cara Lang, the assistant coach for the Americans expressed herself in the following manner after the match had ended: “We moved well and were able to stay on top the whole match. They have played hard and have been grounded mentally to capitalize
on their strengths in every match...Needless to say, we are very proud of how the girls have handled this event so far, being outmatched physically against teams who are playing with so many minimally disabled or able-bodied personnel.”
Apart from the Americans the other teams that have earned the Final Four slots are Russia, Slovenia as well as Ukraine.
